Privacy Policy

Étudy ("we", "our", "the app") is a jazz music education platform operated by Benedikt as sole developer. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

What we collect

Account information: When you sign up, we store your email address and display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google — nothing else.

Profile data: Your chosen username, instrument, avatar image, and bio. All optional except username.

Usage data: Licks you create, save, and like. Practice plans you build. Your instrument and transpose preferences. This data is stored to provide the core functionality of the app.

We do not collect:

• Location data
• Contact lists
• Microphone or camera access
• Browsing history outside the app
• Advertising identifiers

How we use your data

Your data is used exclusively to provide and improve the Étudy service. Specifically:

• To authenticate you and maintain your session
• To save your licks, preferences, and progress
• To display community content (shared licks, profiles)
• To process your subscription if you upgrade to Pro

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers. We do not run ads in the app.

Third-party services

We use a small number of trusted services to operate the app:

• Supabase — Database and authentication. Your data is stored on Supabase servers in the EU. Supabase Privacy Policy
• Vercel — Hosting for the web app. Vercel Privacy Policy
• RevenueCat — Subscription management for Pro. Processes purchase receipts from Apple/Google, no payment details are shared with us. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
• Apple / Google — If you subscribe to Pro via the App Store or Google Play, your payment is processed by Apple or Google respectively. We never see your credit card details.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored in a Supabase PostgreSQL database with row-level security policies. Authentication tokens are handled by Supabase Auth. Passwords are never stored in plain text. All connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption.

Your rights

You can at any time:

• Access your data — your profile, licks, and saves are visible in the app
• Edit your profile information, instrument, and display name
• Delete your private licks and saved content
• Delete your account — contact us at hi@etudy.app and we will delete all your data within 30 days
• Export your data — contact us and we will provide your data in a machine-readable format

If you are in the EU, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Children

Étudy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Cookies

The web app uses essential cookies and local storage for authentication and user preferences only. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect the current version. For significant changes, we will notify you within the app.
